Loved for their creamy texture and smooth, buttery taste the avocado has gained global popularity due to their high nutritional content specifically their high levels of monounsaturated ‘good’ ’ fat.
The Hass avocado makes up most of the Australian supply. They are classic oval shape with unique pebbly, textured skin that changes colour as it ripens from green to purple/black.
Tasting note: smooth and creamy
Longer and more elongated than the Hass, The Shepard avocado is characterised by its smooth, glossy green skin which remains green even when ripe.
Tasting note: nutty and buttery
CHOOSING ‘THE ONE’
Many of our customers ask us when an avocado is ripe to eat. The best way to tell is to give it a little squeeze – a ripe avocado should yield to firm, gentle pressure, but shouldn’t feel overly soft or mushy.
To speed up the ripening process, place avocado in a brown paper bag with an apple or banana.
